My thanks initially go to those society members who attended the outing to this churchyard – many years ago now. We started the afternoon with a talk, in the church, about the parish and the Farquharson family from Mr Angus Farquharson. We print this with the kind permission of the author. Though the weather wasn’t very kind to us, being wet to start with, we did manage to get about 150 stones read. We then had an excellent high tea at The Charleston Hotel. Since then Margaret Brown, Elizabeth Mitchell and myself have been there to carry on the reading and checking. When Edna Cromarty and Jean and Jim Shirer undertook a pre-publication check, the addition of new stones meant some further work. We are grateful to all those concerned. We even include the addition to stone 187 almost at the point it was added to the stone. Finally, we draw your attention to the existence of the Birse Community Trust for all those with ancestry in that area.
