Introduction
The Hamlet of Kirkton of Premnay lies about 2 miles outside the village of Auchleven. The names Premnay and Auchleven are indeed the same place, with the local community calling the village Premnay. But the fact is Premnay is the parish & Auchleven the village. Premnay Church (which is now a house) was built in 1792 and enlarged in 1828 and had seating for 360 people. The stained glass windows were removed when the church was sold, and are now in the village hall. The graveyard is across the road and is in a beautiful setting, with Bennachie as a backdrop. It lies in the middle of a triangle between Oyne, Leslie & Insch. The mound in the graveyard was the very early church of which there are no remains.
