Introduction

A first version of the Maryculter inscriptions was recorded some years ago, and had long languished among the unpublished MIs. Like others in that category, it was still awaiting an overhaul “when we get around to it”, when unexpected help appeared in the shape of David Kennedy, who volunteered his services to check the mapping and transcriptions. I helped latterly with the mapping and the final checking, but the bulk of the credit must go to David. There are a few recent deaths recorded in Maryculter Kirkyard, but most burials now take place in the new Cemetery a little further down the hill, which is not included in this booklet.
