Introduction
This churchyard was started many years ago, in our very early days as ‘graveyarders’. I would like to thank Monica Anton who was with us on our first visit, and Connie Stuart who joined us on a few occasions – some of her ancestors are here. Also to thank Jean & Jim Shirer for their assistance with the first checking and to Freda Thomas from Oldham who spent a day of her holiday cleaning flat stone for us on our last check. Finally to Margaret Brown for cleaning, reading, typing and checking. These inscriptions were checked twice. The reason for this was because we knew an addition had been made to one of the stones and we went to find it. (No. 4.) On our walk around we noticed several stones with ‘bits on the back’. These we noted and then looked at our ‘finished’ script, to find only two of them were included. There were also additions to one or two other stones, so we decided to check the whole thing again. We must have improved over the years as we found quite a few corrections to be made to the original script. We had an alarming experience one Wednesday. Margaret and I were working on a flat stone when a jet fighter came over so quickly in scared us both and was so low I could have shaken hands with the pilot if I’d known he was coming! Be warned. The churchyard here is hard to miss, being right opposite the church which can be seen from quite a distance away.
