My thanks to Margaret Brown and Jim & Jean Shirer for their invaluable assistance with the initial reading of the stones here. Thanks also go to three of our members: Mrs Holland from Cawdor in Nairn, and her English cousins Mrs Booth from Lancashire and Mr Florence from Kent for their help with the checking and in particular in recording additions to stones. They have Beaton and Florence connections buried here, hence their interest. Still more thanks to Jean and to Edna Cromarty for the final checking, to Dennis Fraser for the original Index and to Edna for updating it to the final version. By far the longest inscription we have ever taken is that at 131 - for the Gordons of Haddo. My thanks again to Margaret for getting into quite hazardous positions to be able to read some of the sections. It took about 4 visits to get all of it as we needed the sun at different positions for the inside and outside sections. Many of the now flat stones must originally have been table stones. The Churchyard wall has had the decorative end stones incorporated into it - hence it is a very unusual & attractive wall. Sheila Spiers
