Introduction
First I must thank Margaret Brown for her usual hard work in cleaning and reading the flat stones and the checking – both on site and the final typescript. Then a special thank you to the Fettercairn Café for taking such an interest in our work and, on one occasion directing two of their customers to us while we were partaking of their excellent cooking. Both were from Canada and following their family history. The biggest thank you goes to those of our Society members who spent the day – 8 June 1996 – with us there. A good deal of work was done and only one more visit was needed to complete the first reading. We enjoyed a superb High Tea at the Drumlithie Hotel and went home feeling that a good day’s work had been done. The weather was at its best and we had a cloudless blue sky and sunshine all day. Making use of very good weather we managed to get it all checked and corrected and a copy in the shop within the month. This is exceptionally fast and it certainly will not happen every year. The Church & churchyard stand in the centre of the village on the very highest point. In fact, the churchyard is quite tricky in places, with one side being on a very steep incline. There were a few who were new to our “graveyarding” days here, and they enjoyed themselves enough to say they would join us again next year. Sheila M.Spiers
