Thanks as usual go to Margaret Brown, Jim & Jean Shirer and for an afternoon of hard work cleaning stones, to Mrs Murray (Member No.444) from Skye, who is Margaret’s sister. Those who come visiting be warned, you will be put to work! Alford churchyard is slightly confusing in name, as it isn’t in Alford, but about a mile to the west, on the right-hand side of the Ballater road. Its main claim to fame is that Charles Murray the poet is commemorated here (No 236). Quite a small churchyard, in area at least, but still a very interesting one. Not as quiet as some because there is a good deal of traffic using the Ballater road plus the farm vehicles. To find the current cemetery you must take the left fork at the Mercat Cross in the centre of Alford and go up the hill for about half a mile. You will find it on your left-hand side.
