Description: Not a very big Kirkyard with only 291 stones but some are very interesting. One gives a very full family tree with great-grandparents, grandparents and parents on both sides of the family. Another has details from the 1696 Poll Book inscribed (at a later date) on it and brought up to date with later members of the family. The oldest stone is No 126 dated 1711. One of the main features of the Kirkyard are the four mort safes. Made from stone and iron these were used to protect the coffin from body snatchers until such time as the remains were of no use to the medical profession.
